Media Frenzy over the Transborder Immigrant Tool

Posted at 2:23 pm under Uncategorized

The Transborder Immigrant Tool was the subject of a whirlwind of media attention in the past week. The project has been developed by the Electronic Disturbance Theater, consisting of artists Ricardo Dominguez, Brett Stalbaum, Amy Sara Carroll and Micha Cardenas. The media coverage included television, radio and print stories including the Associated Press, BBC World, NBC, Fox, and the UCSD Guardian. While the actual stories are too many to list here, the following is a list of some of the major articles. Many media outlets improperly reported it as an Iphone app, others attempted to discredit the project saying it is illegal, and some interviewed Enrique Morones of the Border Angels, one of the humanitarian providers whose water caches the tools directs people to. Overall, the members of the group are extremely happy that the Transborder Immigrant Tool has been so effective in opening up dialog on the dire need for humanitarian aid at the border, where thousands of people have needlessly died. We look forward to completing and deploying the tool in the coming year.

Your work for the safety of people in a very real humanitarian crisis, even in the face of what many consider insurmountable political problems around the imaginary borderline, is an inspiration to all of us. I am watching this story and will be cheering you on.

It is a shame a professor should teach his pupils to ignore our immigration laws, constitution and break the laws. Tell me professor, why do we have immigration laws? Tell me professor why should other law biding people bother entering the legal way and you supply criminals with tools to break into our country? You should be fired, tried for treason and crimes against America and her safety. This is not about some poor people coming to the USA. It is about terrorists getting their hands on your “invitation” phone with an almost 100% of entering and having another 9/11. You are a criminal and I hope prosecuted for crimes against America and her people! Thank you for making our country less safe. All the children of America thank you as well.

Why don’t you do-gooders agree to sponsor anyone who arrives safely in the US using one of these devices? Since you seem so concerned about their welfare and all. But it is a lot easier to leave that to Joe Schmoe and the typical US taxpayer to pick up the tab for these people who are a net drain to the US both financially and socially. But what the heck…….if makes you “Feel Good” and that is the most important thing.

I think what you are doing is noble, but, misguided. Simply stating that US policy wants cheap labor isn’t enought to overcome the fact that illegal immigrants are simply that – illegal. My grandparents and great-grandparents came to the US legally. My wife’s grandparents came to the US from Mexico, legally.

Why should the standard be different today?

It is as if you are using the ‘cheap labor’ argument (a wonderfully specious red herring) – many illegals pay no taxes – to justify aiding and abetting circumvention of US immigration law.

I have no problem with immigrants. I have a problem with those who come here illegally and those who help them do so.

If they are crossing the boarder by means that are illegal let them risk their own lifes. Let them die and send all illegals back.
Plenty of people come to the US legally.

Why are you guys not posting comments that are against your ap? So if I claim to be an illegal alien or a terrorist thanking you for your ap would you post that? Do you only want possitive comments? No room for growth?
